March Dharma Initiative: Bruce Irons Camp Fund
This month Y2 proudly supports Bruce Irons Camp Fund in our Dharma initiative.
Lack of opportunity for upward mobility is a critical issue in Charlotte, as a 2014 study done by researchers at Harvard and UC Berkeley ranked Charlotte last in
intergenerational mobility in the top 50 largest commuting zones.
For 28 years, BICF has worked to address the critical issue that all children in our community, regardless of race or income, deserve access to enriching out-of school experiences and opportunities that are directly related to academic and lifelong success. These experiences fall into three categories: residential summer camp, supporting enrichment programs throughout the year, and mentoring. Students are selected the summer before their 5 th grade year and remain in our program for five consecutive years.
Mission and Vision
Bruce Irons Camp Fund (BICF) provides residential summer camp experiences, through-the-year enrichment activities, and mentoring for five consecutive years starting in 5th grade to low-income Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) students who demonstrate leadership potential, good citizenship, and strong academic effort.
About the Y2 Dharma Initiative:
Every Sunday our 5:15 p.m. class is dedicated to support a local non-profit that serves our community. This class is 100% donation-based — that means we don’t take out of your class-passes! Just come, class pass or not, and pay-what-you-can. All proceeds go to the organization we are supporting.
