I began my yoga journey in local Charlotte gyms and fell in love with the fluid movement and how it tapped into my former dance background. I desired more knowledge and deeper connections within my practice, but before that opportunity would come, I would realize another dream by the name of roller derby. As a founding member of the Charlotte Roller Girls, I devoted four years to training hard and playing harder. That sport and the amazing women that I called my family taught me the strength and confidence that I didn’t know I had. I served as trainer to the league incorporating cross fitness and yoga whenever I could get them to take off their skates. When I chose to retire from derby, yoga was waiting there like a gift that I was now ready to accept. Once I fully immersed myself in this beautiful practice, I was home. Studying and practicing yoga has uprooted routines, fears and delusions and replaced them with new vitality, freedom and possibility. If you engage me in conversation about how yoga has transformed my life, (which I warmly welcome) just prepare to stay awhile!
I earned my 200 hr RYT certification through Johnna Smith and Tanner Bazemore and am delighted every single day to be sharing my passion for yoga through teaching. When not teaching yoga, you can find me teaching photography, painting in my studio, studying and reading about yoga and playing with my two funny dogs. I also run my business, Inner Child Art Studio, creating custom ultrasound paintings. Other interests are meditation and energy healing as a Reiki practitioner and the health benefits and clarity of a vegan lifestyle.
What Melissa’s classes are like:
You can expect to work hard, play hard and build confidence and amazement in all that your body can do. My goal is for you to travel light in your heart, body and mind within your practice on and off your mat.
Be at home within your body, allow stillness within your mind and let your breath carry you through.
