Joey found yoga over 15 years ago as a stress reliever from his work in the legal profession. A 1986 graduate of UNC-CH School of Law, Joey is a full-time mediator, where he helps people resolve legal issues without going to court. “My daytime legal job is very different from my nighttime yoga job. When I walk into a mediation, there are upset parties who are sometimes angry and in a negative space. When I walk in to teach a yoga class, I see bright smiling faces in a very loving frame of mind, wanting to be lead through a good yoga class and perhaps take away a spiritual nugget as well. Ultimately, it’s all yoga. In both jobs, I try to help people de-stress and move forward from issues that have been building up.”
You will find Joey’s teaching spiritual, but with a sense of fun and play. “I use yoga as a reset button and an opportunity to connect with the Divine inside, but we can all take things too seriously sometimes, including our yoga. Let’s have some fun while we practice! I try not to have any expectations when I practice or teach yoga, but it certainly helps me to figure out how to fit the pieces of life’s puzzle together.”
