Strength Training – Why It’s the Key to an Almost Effortless Practice

Weight lifters have been told to practice yoga, but yogis haven’t been told to pick up those weights.
Why is that? We’ve been wondering this for quite sometime. Especially because we have had strength classes for quite a while now.. because we know it helps tremendously. But why is that? There are more than a few reasons.
First off, it helps avoid muscle loss from the excessive cardio hot yoga (especially Y2’s hot yoga) brings to the table, but it also leads to giving your body the strength and stability to do some of your favorite poses without pain. For example, wheel pose. A lot of back injuries can happen while working on perfecting your bridge or wheel, however with your core muscles engaged, your back is protected from possibly bending too much and leading to an injury.
