Terrie began practicing yoga in 1999, thanks to Grace Morales, one of Charlotte’s first yoga pioneers. She practiced Ashtanga in a tiny heated room in her house while listening to David Swenson on tape. A year later Grace opened a studio and Terrie started teaching Hot 26 classes for her within the first week. From that moment on, Terrie knew she had found a new passion…teaching yoga.
You’ll find Terrie’s fitness background to be quite diverse with a smashup of everything from dance to gymnastics to competitive aerobics to martial arts to running to mountain biking and more. She’s taught just about every type of organized exercise class possible, including providing over a decade of personal training. However, Terrie claims that nothing holds a candle to yoga because the abundant benefits. She shares, “You can improve your flexibility, strength, balance, posture, body awareness and overall cardiovascular strength but what you will soon realize is there is so much more to yoga. My love for yoga continues to grow deeper as my practice evolves. Yoga is teaching me the importance of slowing down, that life is a process, that my best is good enough and that connecting to my breath, my thoughts and my emotions allow me to be more fully present and in doing that I can live a more connected purposeful life. Yoga is moving meditation to me and I feel grateful every time I get to guide one person or 100 people through a yoga practice. Yoga is a journey of the mind, body and heart. There is no end…just new possibilities every day.”
Teaching style: Balanced, upbeat and tailored to the type of class she is teaching and to the yogis that are in class. Terrie is skillfully able to teach a class that gives the most advanced yogi a place to take a posture deeper while providing modifications so that beginners feel comfortable and EVERYONE has a safe place to go. You’ll find fun music mixes and lots of hands on assists. Terrie teaches from the heart and stays grounded in her desire to help people achieve their personal best and to live healthier more content lives.
Believing it important to remain a student of the practice of yoga, Terrie respectfully gives credit to the many wonderful teachers that have inspired and influenced her over the years. Grace Morales, Johnna Smith, Suzanne Bergen, Tanner Bazemore, Barron Baptiste, Brian Kest, Shiva Rea and (Kancho) Cameron Shayne.
