Common roadblocks and why they shouldn’t hold you back.
“I’m not ready.”
If you desire to deepen your personal practice and learn more about yoga, you are ready for teacher training. There is no set amount of experience required or a certain number of years of practice. We have had past trainees with as little as six months of yoga experience all the way to 20+ years of practice under their belts. It’s about your love for the practice and your desire to deepen your understanding of yourself and the world around you.
“My practice isn’t advanced enough.”
Doesn’t matter. For real. You don’t have to be able to do headstands and handstands on command (or at all) to enroll in teacher training. There is no requirement on arm balancing skills. We will not pick apart your asana practice. It will grow through teacher training as you learn more about ashtanga yoga and spend time on anatomy and assisting but teacher training is about so much more than your physical practice.
“I’m too old or too young.”
The beautiful thing about teacher training is that it brings together people from all walks of life. In our Winter 2016 Teacher Training we had 30 trainees including the following…
– A 17 year old high school student
– A 46 year old stay-at-home mom of 4
– A 51 year old career landscaper and gardener- A 26 year old newspaper writer
– A 34 year old divorce attorney
…And many more! It’s so amazing to see all of these people come together with seemingly little in common other than their love of yoga and realize that they actually have so many similar life experiences and so much to learn from each other.
“Now isn’t the right time.”
There is never a perfect time. You will figure it out. The one constant about life is that it’s always changing. If you feel ready now, figure out a way to make it happen now.
“I have to miss a weekend.”
Almost everyone enrolled will have to miss an evening or afternoon or entire weekend. We totally get that life is busy and we will work with you on makeup work to complete the hours you missed.
“I don’t want to teach yoga. Or, I want to teach a different style of yoga than power.”
First, you do not have to want to teach yoga to enroll in teacher training. Many do it for their own personal development and to deepen their practice. That said, almost everyone who graduates from our program ends up teaching in some capacity whether it be privates with friends and family, teaching yoga to kids or in schools, teaching at local gyms or teaching in a studio. Our program will prepare you to take yoga to many different audiences. We even have one past graduate who started a non-profit that teaches yoga to incarcerated and homeless men.
“The financial investment is worrisome.”
First, we offer an annual scholarship for 50% off of teacher training tuition to one student. Please email email@example.com for more information. THE WINTER 2018 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM IS CLOSED. Summer 2018 is open. Second, we will happily work with you on a payment plan that works for your current financial situation.
What past graduates are saying...
“This teacher training transformed my perception of what I’m capable of, as a practitioner, as a teacher, and simply as a human making her way through life.” – Katie Toussaint
“The Y2 Teacher Training program was truly life changing. Many programs teach you a lot about yoga. However, the Y2 program is unparalleled in the knowledge and experience of its instructors in yoga philosophy, anatomy, and what it takes to be an amazing teacher. I graduated with the knowledge and ability to lead a class that people will love and return to again and again. And more importantly, I learned so much about myself and how to be happy and follow my bliss. Thank you Tanner, Jen and Johnna!” -ML Stewart
“I really wanted to do teacher training but I was scared to sign up because I had not been practicing yoga all that long and was afraid I wasn’t “good enough.” Y2 Teacher Training has nothing to do with your skill in yoga, but your willingness to learn, your love for the practice, and a desire to grow. The best part about the training is the knowledge, support, and guidance we received from Johnna, Tanner and Jen — I can’t imagine doing this training anywhere other than Y2. It is the best thing I have ever done for myself.” -Pippi Gandy
“As a wife, a mother of three young kids and living two hours away made me question my motives for driving from Asheville to take yoga teacher training at Y2. I chose that drive because a previous teacher had trained there and I loved his style of teaching. After the first half day of class, I knew this was the best decision I had made for myself. It changed my life in ways I hadn’t expected. Not only did it enhance my yoga practice but it helped me gain a better appreciation of self love – it helped me learn how to share this passion with others and it pushed me to my limits. This was all because of Y2’s owner, teachers and other students. When you love what you do, it is obvious and this was evident throughout my training at Y2.” – Lynn Roberts
“Teacher training at Y2 Yoga was an unexpected journey of discovering me. I thought it would be about deepening my practice…I had no real plan to teach. But everything changed. I had to drop the person I thought I was supposed to be, to become who I was meant to be. As the first weekend of training came to a close I thought, ‘that’s it, that was worth all of it’…and it was just the beginning.” – Dana Starensier
“Teacher training at Y2 is the best investment I have ever made in myself. I met the most amazing people who helped me deepen my practice and let go of my fears. This experience has given me the confidence to pursue my dreams of living a new life doing the things I love. I moved to the lowcountry and launched a website to sell my art and support the preservation of the marsh.” – Janet Johnson
“Teacher training was one of the best experiences of my life. Tanner is a gifted teacher with a wealth of knowledge in anatomy and sequencing. He is fierce and passionate – one of the most authentic people I’ve ever known. Johnna has the biggest, most beautiful spirit. She’ll wring you out, lift you up and embrace you just as you are.” – Janaki Gooty
